The Space

Stable Cottage's living accommodation has recently been renovated to a very high standard, creating a relaxing and comfortable place to stay. On arrival, you are greeted by the charming cottage exterior, with natural stone walls and wooden frame windows. Step inside to the bespoke cottage kitchen, complete with free standing Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, Belfast sink, fridge / freezer and farmhouse dining table to seat eight. Patio doors open out from the kitchen to a private paved area with seating and potted plants. 

A doorway leads through to the light and airy living room, with vaulted high ceilings, exposed beams, wood burning stove, comfortable sofa seating and doors which open out to the enclosed garden. Stairs lead from the living room up to a mezzanine floor with glass balcony. The mezzanine provides sleeping accommodation for 2 people on a sofa bed, which is available on request (please request at the time of booking). There are also books and games, along with a writing desk. Also on the ground floor is a useful utility and boot room, with washing machine and hanging hooks for coats. There is also a family bathroom on this floor, with freestanding bath and chequerboard floor. 

On the first floor, you'll find three tastefully decorated bedrooms. The master bedroom is filled with natural light coming through the rooflight windows, and is complete with a King size bed, wardrobe, bed side tables and a private adjoining en-suite shower room. Further down the hallway are the remaining two bedrooms; a double and a twin, along with the family shower room just across the hallway. 

Stable Cottage benefits from its very own private garden, with direct access to the parking area which is suitable for up to three cars. Paved steps lead up from the parking area to the newly paved path leading to patio doors in to the kitchen. To the left there is a large lawned area, which is fully fenced and safe for dogs and children. A paved path leads up the lawn, to a large paved area with seating, potted plants and a gas BBQ. Please note that the grounds of the house are not accessible to holiday guests, children and pets should be supervised at all times. The property is pet friendly and we politely request that you keep dogs on leads at all times whilst in the garden.  

History & Local Area

It is understood that King George III visited the Jacobean manor house on a number of occasions. The renowned author Thomas Hardy used the Manor as Oxwell Hall in "The Trumpet Major". Its rich heritage coupled with the idyllic Dorset landscape makes it a must visit destination for history enthusiasts, architectural admirers and those seeking a retreat from the modern world. 

Dorset itself is renowned for its unspoiled beauty and picturesque charm. The county boasts a diverse array of landscapes, from the dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the tranquil countryside dotted with quaint villages and historic landmarks. Poxwell Manor House stands as a testament to Dorset's rich heritage and architectural legacy, nestled within this captivating setting.
