Description

'Silks & Sails' offers a peaceful and comfortable retreat for visitors looking to enjoy the seaside town of Weymouth. This two bedroom holiday cottage is located in an elevated position overlooking Weymouth Harbour and the English Channel. Set within a terrace of traditional and characterful houses, the picturesque setting is perfect for guests looking for a relaxing stay in the heart of Weymouth. Having recently been renovated, 'Silks & Sails' benefits from a newly fitted kitchen, freshly decorated interior and newly installed bathroom. There is a sheltered courtyard garden, on street parking and well behaved pets are welcome!

The Space

The layout of Silks & Sails is traditional of a property of this age. The living room at the front of the house, is characterful and bright, with large bay window with sea glimpses to the East, sanded wooden floorboards and feature fireplace. Just next door is a 'snug' room, which can be used as a home office, games room or reading room. Through to the back of the house is the newly fitted galley kitchen, complete with integrated appliances including dishwasher, washing machine, fridge / freezer, fan oven and induction hob. A light and airy dining area adjoins the kitchen, with an extendable dining table and seating for four. A door leads from the dining area to the enclosed rear garden, set over two tiers, with outside dining table and planted pots. There are loungers and deckchairs supplied for those wishing to lie back, relax and enjoy fine weather.

The most impressive room in the house has to be the master bedroom, primarily down to the stunning views from the bay window over Weymouth Harbour and the English Channel beyond. This bedroom features a King size bed, along with sanded wooden floors, feature fireplace and seating from where you can admire the coastal views. Just next door is the second bedroom, with a pair of single beds, storage and a window overlooking the garden. There is also a newly fitted bathroom suite on this floor, with freestanding roll top bath, a large walk in shower, wash hand basin with mirror above and W.C. There is also a separate cloakroom with W.C. and wash hand basin just next door.

We are delighted to welcome well behaved pets to this holiday cottage.

Owned by a retired jockey who hung up his racing silks to indulge his new passion for sailing (hence the name). He fell in love with the property's stunning upstairs view and tranquil setting perched above the harbour yet only 5 minutes walk to the Quayside - please note, it is a quite a steep walk down to the harbour which might not be suited to those with restricted mobility.

Parking contribution of £15 to all bookings, as a gesture from the owner. Parking is available for a limited amount of cars on street in front of the property, and in nearby residential streets. There is also a metered car park just a short walk away, the owner of this property will contribute £15 towards your car parking fees if you have to park in the nearby car park (please keep receipt). On street parking in front of the property - In keeping with its traditional setting and tranquillity of the location, access to the cul de sac is down a narrow alley, and is better suited to smaller cars or those who are confident to reverse in or out of the alley.

The Area

Weymouth Harbour features a vibrant waterfront area lined with colourful buildings, cafes, restaurants, and shops. It serves as a hub for recreational boating, with numerous pleasure craft, yachts, and fishing boats moored along the quayside. Visitors can take leisurely walks along the promenade, enjoying the scenic views and watching boats come and go. The harbour is also home to Weymouth's iconic lifting bridge, known as the Town Bridge, which spans the entrance to the inner harbor. The bridge opens periodically to allow boats to pass through, creating a fascinating spectacle for onlookers. With its picturesque setting, lively atmosphere, and historical significance, Weymouth Harbour is a delightful place to visit, whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll, a taste of fresh seafood, or a glimpse into the town's maritime heritage. The cottage is well situated for exploring the local area, and lies within easy reach of the The Jurassic Coast UNESCO world heritige site, and is just 5 miles from the county town of Dorchester.

We absolutely loved the location and set up of this house. It was a perfect base for my son and I to enjoy a little break with dog walking and exploring locally. Thank you so much would love to come back some time!

Great Holiday!

We had a great holiday! Fantastic location right near the harbour and beach. Great interior design and well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need. The bedding smelled amazing throughout our stay too. George and Amy are very friendly and on hand for any queries or issues which are acted on immediately. Would highly recommend!

Great location!

A great location with a beautiful view and everything we needed for a comfortable family holiday. The fully enclosed garden space was perfect for the dog, and there are lots of gorgeous walks and great restaurants nearby, so although parking near the house was a bit tricky, we barely needed to move the car as everything was on our doorstep. The house was very clean and well thought out, with comfy beds, lots of cooking equipment and a thoughtful welcome pack. Highly recommend staying here and also driving to Worth Matravers to do the night hike with Barry, also found on Airbnb. We booked some restaurants in advance e from the host's recommendations and were very glad we did. Dinners at the Crab House Café, Rockfish and Catch at the old fish market were delicious!

Fantastic Stay! Lovely Views!

Had a fantastic stay at silks and sails. As soon as we walked in we knew we had made the right choice, it was exactly as described spotlessly clean and looked absolutely stunning. A lovely view over the quay was enjoyed every morning from the seating in the main bedroom with a cup of coffee and made a great start the day. After a short walk down to the harbour you will find numerous great places to eat and drink and a little further is the lovely beach of Weymouth. We will definitely be booking again.

Beautiful property, lovely stay!

Had a lovely stay in Weymouth. The property was beautifully kept and extremely clean. The area was fantastic, and the view from the master bedroom was wonderful. Amy was lovely to deal with and the little touches in the house were great too!

Very nice house

Enjoyable stay house very clean and well equipped kitchen had all modern appliances nice bedding and towels. Close to harbour and town parking was a problem but we had been advised about this. Only recommendation for elderly guests a slip mat in shower and to accommodate 4 adults another comfortable chair in lounge otherwise everything was very good.

Lovely comfortable and well styled home

A lovely home for a long weekend, well styled and had almost everything required for a short trip away. Nice little welcome gift and an attractive decor. Only slight downside was that the bedsheets were fairly low quality.

A warm and comfortable house in a great location

The exceptionally well presented and equipped house is located just a few minutes walk away from the Harbour and old town with plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs to choose from. Once you've got the car parked, just leave it there. No need for it during your stay as all facilities and entertainment (even on rainy days) are within easy walking distance. First time we've to been to Weymouth; a lovely place to visit, which was made even more special having a house like this to stay in.. Would certainly recommend!

We had a wonderful week long stay...

We had a wonderful week long stay at this holiday home! It's been beautifully and tastefully modernised. The main bedroom has a lovely view over the harbour and we could very clearly watch the Monday night fireworks along the beach front from the house! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you can think of, and they kindly left some tasty goodies for us on arrival. Very clean throughout. Amy was a very responsive host and got to us immediately when we had any queries. We found the parking to be tricky. Most days we had to park a 10 minute walk away from the property which wasn't ideal with 2 small children. However, if you plan to stay mostly in Weymouth town/beach itself, everything is so close by so doesn't require you to drive. It is a minute walk to the harbour and 3 minutes into town. A very lovely holiday home!
